“The Impact of Commuting on Subjective and Objective Wellbeing: A Quantitative Study in Germany”

Dr. Bhuvana Chidambaram has started a new DFG-funded individual research project, COMWELL (DFG-CH 3436/2-1), titled “The Impact of Commuting on Subjective and Objective Wellbeing: A Quantitative Study in Germany”, on 1 April 2026. The project investigates how commuting behaviour shapes multiple dimensions of wellbeing, including subjective, objective, and travel-related aspects. Using Germany as a case study, it combines data from the German Time Use Survey, the German Family Demography Panel, and primary data collection in Dortmund. The research further examines the role of telecommuting in influencing work–life balance and life satisfaction, contributing to evidence-based transport and social policy on sustainable mobility, wellbeing, and gender perspectives.
